Music Review of Music Album Havatum Em. |
Armenian Superstar singer Sirusho's album Havatum Em is a massive one! There are 14 songs with 12 originals, 1 remix & 1 instrumental. Album is mostly Pop & R&B and is in English, Greek & Armenian languages. There is one Rock'ish song as well. I will call it a good album because of highly unusual songs. There is a feet-tapping number, there is romantic song, & there is inspirational song. Folk music is noticeable in some songs while some sound like typical club songs. Below is the brief review.
1. Havatum Em :-
A perfect start to the album. Typical R&B song. Beautiful Piano chords gelling well with Sirusho's voice. Very soft, easy on ears & enjoyable.I don't understand a word but music gives an impression of losing someone special & remembering him/her. Beautiful singing & light orchestration.
2. Erotas : -
Now this is interesting. 2nd song is just opposite to the first song. This one is in Greek language (if i am not mistaken, Sirusho sung this for her Greek fans). It was released as a single earlier. One of the best songs of the album. Folk tunes open this full of energy number. Percussion also is great. Sirusho sings in her signature style. This will attract you straightaway. Tune is very catchy. Excellent.
3. 1, 2, 3 :-
Another fast-paced melody. Typical Pop number. Beat driven & full of energy. Sirusho sounds energetic as usual. Towards the end where she changes her pitch is quite likeable. Awesome song. Lyrics suggest that person is upset for loving.
4. Inside :-
After 3 great songs, here comes one not-so-good song. Its my personal opinion. This one carries blues feelings. Very very slow. Not so great composition.
5. Shat Lav, Vochinch :-
Heavy Piano chords open this another R&B number. Entire song has been sung in same pitch & with same tempo. Catchy tunes. You'll like this.
6. Korcrac Meghedi :-
Another R&B song. Again not so good. Again I will say, its my personal opinion. Since I don't understand the language, I can't say anything on this. Listen to it & judge for yourself. Its soft, nonetheless.
7. Strong :-
Sounds like an Opera song. Tune is catchy, though nothing exceptional. Might grow on you. Not bad, if not great.
8. Can't control : -
This is real fusion (I guess, its folk tunes that open this song). Starts off slowly but progresses gradually. Becomes quite interesting as it progresses. Lovely orchestration & mixing. Vocals are great as always. Again a pitch change towards the end sounds great! Go for it.
9. Breathe :-
Again a romantic song with lovely melody. Soft, easy & melodious. Orchestration is complex & gels well withe vocals. This one is also a great song to listen to.
10. Time To Pray :-
Now its time to pray. The only Rock number (in terms of orchestration). Sung in 2 (or 3) languages, this one is a real surprise. It features Boaz (from Israel) & Jelena (from Serbia) alongwith Sirusho. Lovely drums, cymbals, bass guitars & vocals. Again a progressive number that will grow on you. Tells the pain of 3 countries that witnessed brutal killings :(
Really an inspirational song.
11. One & Only :-
Very electronic. Techno effect is quite noticeable in the beginning. Sounds like singer is praising her love interest. Full of energy, this will make you tap your feet. Nothing great, but will grow on you gradually.
12. Yes Qo Yerazn Em :-
Time to break loose. Time to dance. Yes Qo is based on typical club beats template. Strong beats, catchy tunes & high octane singing make it an interesting song.
13. Qele Qele (Yerevan Remix Edit) :-
No need to explain it. Remix of the song that won Sirusho 4th place in 2008 Eurovision Song Contest. This one is again one of the best songs of the album. More about this can be found here. A must have song for your iPod / music device.
14. Havatum Em (Instrumental) :-
Nothing much to say. This is one is as good as original. Soft, easy & tuneful.
If you're looking for some change, go for Havatum Em. If you're bored of typical stuff, go for Havatum Em. Barring 2 songs, rest of the album is really very good.
My pick(s) : - Havatum Em, Erotas, 1-2-3, Shat Lav-Vochinch, Can't Control, Breathe, Time To Pray, Yes Qo, Qele Qele & Instrumental.
